This was the inaugural lecture in a series given once a year in honor of Dr. John A. Blume. 

Tom Paulay

Professor Tom Paulay has been teaching structural design and structural mechanics for 28 years. He has been a lecturer, researcher and author and the recipient of several awards including the Raymond C. Reese Structural Research Award of the American Concrete Institute in 1982 and 1983. He is an Honorary Member of the American Concrete Institute and the International Association for Earthquake Engineering, and a Distinguished Fellow of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand. Professor Paulay has been the keynote speaker at several international conferences, including the 11th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering, was a consultant to UNESCO in connection with earthquake mitigation in the Balkan region, and in 1997 was a Distinguished Lecturer for both the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute and the Japanese Ministry of Culture and Sciences.
