Professor Luis Esteva, the former Associate Director (1970-1977) and Director (1982-1991) of the Institute of Engineering and former Dean of Science (1991-1993) at the National University of Mexico, is the author of numerous publications on Earthquake Engineering, Seismic Hazard and Risk Analysis, and Structural Reliability.  In his professional practice, Professor Esteva has consulted on projects both in Mexico and abroad.  He has also participated in the formulation of building codes and seismic regulations for Mexico and other countries.  Professor Esteva is the recipient of numerous national and international awards and expressions of recognition.  Since 2000 he has been a Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Engineering in the United States.  He is also an Honorary Member and President-Elect (2002-2006) of the International Association for Earthquake Engineering.
