Girmay receives SSA Student Presentation Award

Headshot of Nathan Girmay

PhD student Nathan Girmay received a 2026 Student Presentation Award from the Seismological Society of America (SSA) for his presentation at the SSA Annual Meeting, held April 14–18, 2026, in Pasadena.

Nathan was one of just seven students selected from more than 60 student presenters. The recognition is especially notable given that he is a structural engineering PhD student—among a cohort largely made up of geophysics and seismology students—and it was his first time attending an SSA annual meeting.

His award-winning presentation was titled “Effects of Source Energy Radiation on the Orientation of Maximum Horizontal Ground Motion Intensity.”
