Lepech named C.L. Peck, Class of 1906 Professor

Michael Lepech, professor of civil and environmental engineering, has been appointed the next C. L. Peck, Class of 1906 Professor in the School of Engineering.

This professorship was established through a gift from Clair L. Peck Jr., in honor of his father and Stanford alumnus, Clair L. Peck Sr. The chair supports CEE faculty working in construction, earthquake engineering, technology, structural engineering, or related fields, with special consideration for candidates like Mike who inspire students to strive for high standards of professional achievement. Previous holders were Anne Kiremidjian (2020-2026), James Leckie (2007-2020), and Paul Roberts (1989-2006).

Mike Lepech joined the Stanford faculty in 2008 and has been a full professor since 2021. His research develops engineering design concepts, models, and tools that are tightly integrated with quantitative sustainability and service-life assessment, from material to system scales and throughout the design, project engineering, construction, and operation phases of constructed facilities. He is a Senior Fellow in the Woods Institute for the Environment and director of the Stanford Center for Sustainable Development and Global Competitiveness.

Mike has earned multiple best paper awards as well as Stanford’s Tau Beta Pi Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. He is also a strong service contributor across campus.
